Tickets are key to the action, and souvenirs that are kept for years after the race. We proposed adding NFC technology to the tickets to integrate them into the IoT API. Fans can link their ticket to the F1 app, unlocking additional race weekend features.
We proposed enriching the track side experience by adding a new Raceday section to the F1 App. Using a combination of ticket ID and geolocation, new features become accessible within predetermined timeframes and location (ie, track side) to enhance the experience and negate any rights issues.

Raceday mode lets fans move fast, turning frequent scanning of barcodes and ticket stub collection at grandstands into a quick ‘tap’. Fans can also use the app to top-up their ticket balance for purchasing refreshments and souvenirs - moving away from cash and foreign transaction fees to a centralised F1 payment system.
Raceday will also provide high-fidelity circuit maps. Using live ticket usage data, crowd movement can be analysed - providing heatmap overlays to ease route planning and identify bottlenecks, making getting to the grandstand as straightforward as possible. This data can also support event management via connected signage.

With the action underway - the F1 app becomes an extension of the live action. We utilise the sensors in both the cars and users device to create a mixed reality experience that is unique to the fan. This content can be captured and shared immediately via social media, and revisited after the race to catch up on the action.
The raceday app experience brings heart rate, respiratory and body temperature sensors alongside timing and car data - enabling fans to explore the physical endurance of drivers and see how activity changes over the course of the race. Fans can compare performance to that of other athletes, and even their own.
